Book Review: A moonless starless sky by Alexis Okeowo

It was a good read. I love history & even though this wasn’t about history, the context provided to the various stories did that. I liked how Alexis was able to follow the life of her subjects over such a long period in a high risk environment and successfully compressed it into a few pages. The author empathised with her subjects, sometimes sharing their burden, yet was able to withhold judgment. Good reporting.

For me, the book was a good reminder of the challenges people grapple with in their everyday life. Some, constantly looking over their shoulders, because they have decided to stand for something. Society is divided among so many lines, there’s a lot to fight for. A lot of walls were broken. In the end, the only thing that separates our quality of life might just be the hand we are dealt; the environment we find ourselves & the choices we make (some of which are made for us).
